About
A first-grade subtraction game. Students warm up with a number talk that uses one fact to find a related one (9 − 7 = 2, so 9 − 2 = 7), then play Capture Squares with Hattie the hippo: flip two number cards, find the difference, and tap its square on the board to win a star. A jar story at the end puts taking away to work. Every direction is read aloud, and wrong answers get a spoken hint.
