Lumi's Collage Club: Stories and Equations

Lumi the lemur runs a collage club, and her friends have story problems to share. Students hear each story read aloud, then sort story cards into adding and subtracting stories, find out why one story can be both, and pick the two equations that match each story: one that shows what happens and one that finds the answer. Every equation has a speaker so students can hear it read, with "?" read as "a mystery number". Spoken hints help after a wrong answer. Grade 1, about 10 minutes, standards 1.OA.A.1, 1.OA.B.4 and 1.OA.C.6.
