About

Marlo the chameleon mosaic artist builds patterns that grow, one step at a time. Students continue patterns of circles, bottle caps and pattern-block giraffes from their rules, fill in tables of totals, and spot what a rule doesn't say: totals that alternate odd and even, or that are always multiples of 5 or 10. They use those features to decide whether a number can ever appear in a pattern, find which step reaches a total, and finish by telling what stays the same and what changes in a tower of blocks. Every direction is narrated, and each wrong answer gets a hint. Built for Grade 4 patterns (4.OA.C.5).

  • Tell what stays the same and what changes as a pattern grows.
