About

Detective Dot is back, and this time the clue hides in the middle of the word! In this narrated phonics lesson for kindergarten and first grade, children listen for the short vowel sound in simple CVC words. They match pictures with the same middle sound, sort short a and short i pictures into baskets, match the vowels a, e, i, o and u to pictures, drag the missing vowel into words like p_n and b_x, type the vowel in p_g, and finish by tapping every short-a picture on a rolling conveyor belt. Every direction is read aloud, wrong answers get a gentle hint, and the ending shows the child's score. The third lesson in the Sound Detectives phonemic awareness series.
