Fern's Duck Pond: Ducks Come, Ducks Go

Ducks come and ducks go at Fern's pond. Kindergarteners hear two story problems with the same ducks and the same numbers, show each one with counters on a ten-frame (put more in, then take some away), solve them, and meet their first expressions: 6 + 3 read as "6 plus 3" and 9 − 3 read as "9 minus 3". A warm-up counts to 40, and a final check asks which drawing and which expression match a new story. Every direction is narrated.
