Website Privacy Notice

Last updated

This notice covers you when you visit berdee.app without signing in: reading our pages, joining the waitlist, or sending us a message. It is published by Berdee Learning("Berdee", "we"). Once you have an account, our Privacy Policy applies too; students are covered by the Student Privacy Policy.

What we collect

What you give us

  • Your email address, if you join the waitlist, with your place in line, your personal invitation link, and how many people joined through it.
  • Your name, email and message, if you use the contact form or email us.
  • Ratings and comments you leave on help-center articles and tutorials.
  • A referral link, if you arrived through someone else's invitation link, so we can credit them.

What we collect automatically

  • How you found us: the campaign tags in the link you followed, the site that referred you, and the first page you landed on.
  • What you do on the site: the pages you view, the buttons and links you click, and how far you scroll through a page.
  • Session recordings on our marketing pages (see below).
  • Technical details: your IP address, browser and device type, which our servers and service providers receive with every request.

If you later create an account, what we already know about how you found us is attached to it.

How we use it

  • To tell you when Berdee opens and send occasional product news, if you joined the waitlist.
  • To answer your message.
  • To see which pages and campaigns help educators understand Berdee, and fix the ones that don't.
  • To keep the site secure and working.

Session recording

On our marketing pages (the home page, pricing, product, features, persona, about, security and contact pages, the public marketplace, and sign-up) we record visits: what was on the screen, mouse movement, clicks and scrolling. It shows us where the site is confusing. Everything you type into a form field is hidden from the recording. We do not record the sign-in page, email-preference pages, the help center, or these legal pages.

Cookies and browser storage

Unless you opt out (see below), we use these cookies and browser storage on our public pages:

  • Visitor ID (anonymous_id, up to one year): a random ID set on your first visit, so we can tell repeat visits from the same browser apart from new ones.
  • How you found us (berdee_ft, up to 90 days): the page and campaign that first brought you here.
  • Analytics: PostHog's own cookie and browser storage.

These are set whatever you choose about analytics, because the site needs them:

  • Sign-in: if you sign in, a session cookie keeps you signed in.
  • Referral: the invitation link you arrived through, kept for seven days.
  • Waitlist: a note that this browser already joined, so we don't ask again (one year).

We use no advertising cookies and have no advertising partners.

Turning analytics off

Analytics and session recording are on by default. Every public page (our marketing pages, the help center and tutorials) has a "Do not track me" switch in its footer. It applies to the browser you use it in, and you can turn analytics back on there at any time. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat it as the same choice automatically; you don't need to do anything.

Once you've opted out, nothing is sent to PostHog, no session is recorded, and neither we nor PostHog set analytics cookies or store analytics data in your browser. We keep one small cookie, berdee_no_track, to remember your choice; it holds no ID. Opting out doesn't affect the cookies the site needs (such as sign-in) or the records we keep to run the service, such as billing records, security logs and error reports.

Who we share it with

  • PostHog (United States): analytics and session recordings. It runs through our own domain.
  • Cloudflare: hosting, and sending our emails to you.
  • Sentry: error reports from the browser, with no user or request details, and our servers' log lines.
  • Google Fonts: serves the site's typefaces and receives your IP address when they load.

We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. We disclose it to others only when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to delete them; we don't yet delete them on a schedule. Unsubscribing stops our emails but keeps your address, so we know not to write to you again. Contact messages are kept as long as we need them to help you. Server logs are kept for about a week; log lines sent to Sentry are kept as long as Sentry keeps them.

Your choices

  • Every waitlist email has an unsubscribe link.
  • The "Do not track me" switch in the footer, or a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, turns off analytics and recording in that browser.
  • You can block or clear cookies in your browser; the site still works.
  • To see or delete what we hold about you, email support@berdee.app.

Our Privacy Policy explains the rights some US states give their residents.

Children

Our marketing site is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children through it. Children use Berdee only when an educator adds them, as described in the Student Privacy Policy.
