Marketplace Credits
How credits work in the marketplace, how bundles compare, and why some credits show up automatically.
Credits are how the marketplace prices and pays for lessons. 100 credits = $1. That same exchange rate applies whether you buy a credit bundle, earn credits as an annual bonus, or use credits to license a lesson.
Two kinds of credits
- Paid credits are the credits you bought directly. They represent real money you can spend on any listing.
- Promo credits are credits we granted you, like an annual bonus or a goodwill credit from our support team. They're worth the same when spent, but they have a different label in your transaction history so we can tell promo grants apart from purchases, and because nobody paid for them, they can't be refunded.
When you spend credits, promo balance drains first, then paid balance. You don't have to do anything — that ordering happens automatically inside the same transaction as your purchase.
Credit bundles
Top up with a bundle whenever you're running low. Bundles never expire while your account is active.
| Bundle | Credits | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 500 | One lesson |
| Small | 1,100 | A handful of lessons |
| Medium | 3,000 | A unit's worth |
| Large | 6,500 | A semester |
| Extra Large | 14,000 | A school year |
Credits are spent on marketplace lessons only — buying a bundle doesn't add to your monthly AI or text-to-speech allowance, and using AI or TTS doesn't spend credits.
No tax is charged when you buy a bundle. US sales tax is charged when you spend credits on a lesson, in credits, based on your billing address; the purchase confirmation says so, and your receipt lists the tax credits separately. The receipt also shows the Amount paid: what the credits you used cost you (bought credits at the average price you've paid across all your credit purchases, free promotional and annual-plan bonus credits at $0). That's the figure to give your school for reimbursement. Marketplace credits and your AI/TTS allowance are entirely separate: see AI and Voice for how the allowance works.
After you buy
Stripe brings you back to Buy credits with "Thanks! Your credits will be available shortly." For a card, this is nearly instant. If your payment method needs a moment to clear, the credits land as soon as it does — you don't need to do anything or check back. If a payment ultimately fails to clear, no credits are granted and nothing is charged.
Annual bonus credits
If you're on an annual Plus or Studio Pro plan, you get bonus marketplace credits each time your annual invoice is paid: 500 credits on Plus and 1,500 credits on Studio Pro. Monthly plans don't include a bonus. Bonus credits arrive as promo credits (they aren't listed on your Stripe receipt) and land in your promo bucket and are spent first the next time you license a lesson.
We email you when they land, with the amount, and the same notice appears in your notifications in Berdee. That email always arrives — it isn't covered by the Marketing emails switch, because the credits are part of what your annual plan pays for. See Email Preferences.
Refunds
Credit purchases aren't refunded automatically. If something went wrong, contact support.
