Interactive Rain Widget
Create a fast-paced falling-item game where learners tap the right targets under time or accuracy pressure.
Interactive rain is a game-style widget where items fall down the screen and learners click the correct ones while avoiding incorrect targets or racing the clock.
Select the game on the canvas and click the floating ⚙ Configure button to open its setup dialog — the items, timing, end conditions, and scoring all live there. See Configuring an Interactive Rain for the full walkthrough.
Settings to know
- Items are the text or image targets that fall during the game.
- Fall Speed controls how quickly items move.
- Spawn Interval controls how often new items appear.
- Lanes controls how many vertical paths items can use.
- Speed Up settings decide whether the game gets faster over time or after correct selections.
- End Conditions decide what stops the game.
- Repeat Mode controls whether missed or unclicked items appear again.
For each item, choose whether it uses text or an image and mark whether it is a correct target. Give image items alt text (a short description of the picture) so screen reader users can play too.
Grading is all or nothing: full points for tapping every correct item without a single wrong tap, 0 otherwise.
Grading setup
Interactive rain supports grading. The grading controls are in the Scoring section of the ⚙ Configure dialog.
- Scoring (the On/Off switch at the top of the section) turns grading on or off for the game.
- The widget's name is the readable label for this answer in results and conditions. Rename it at the top of the properties panel — see Widgets and widget settings.
- Points sets how much the game is worth.
- While Scoring is on, the game counts toward both the scene score and the lesson score.
- Group lets you include the game in a custom grading group.
How to set up the content
Start simple. Use a small item pool first, then tune speed, spawn timing, and end conditions until the game feels challenging but readable.
Useful setting combinations
- Text items + correct and incorrect labels:
Best for vocabulary recognition.
- Image items (each with alt text) + several lanes:
Best for quick visual classification.
- Speed up on correct select:
Best for game-like fluency practice.
- Timeout end condition:
Best for fixed-length rounds.
- Incorrect selected end condition:
Best for high-accuracy practice.
- Repeat Mode set to unclicked:
Best when missed items should come back for another chance.
Strong use cases
- Tap the nouns, formulas, or correct translations.
- Quick recognition drills.
- Timed review before assessment.
Great pairings with other widgets
- For a step-by-step build, see the tutorial Make a rain game where students tap the nouns: twelve short words fall, students tap the six nouns, and a wrong tap ends the round so they try again.
- Pair interactive rain with timer when you want visible pacing outside the game itself.
- Pair it with score for arcade-style feedback.
- Pair it with text for challenge rules and success conditions.
The game never starts on its own: learners press its Start button when they're ready, and Play again once a round ends.
