How Berdee tells you when a new version is ready and what "Reload now" does.

Berdee improves continuously — we ship fixes and new features without taking the app down. When you have a tab open and we release an update, your browser keeps running the version it loaded with until you refresh. To make sure you're never stuck on an older version, Berdee watches for new releases and lets you know.

What you'll see

When a newer version of Berdee becomes available while you're working, a small dialog appears. What it says depends on where you are.

In the studio, where your lesson saves automatically as you edit:

A new version of Berdee is available We've shipped an update. Reloading saves your current work first, then loads the latest version.

Everywhere else, like Settings or a classroom page:

A new version of Berdee is available We've shipped an update. Save any changes on this page before you reload. Reloading doesn't save them for you.

Those pages save only when you click their Save button, and reloading never clicks it for you. If you're partway through a change, like editing your name in Settings › Profile, choose I'll reload later, save your change, then refresh the page.

You have two choices:

  • Reload now — refreshes the page and loads the latest version. In the

studio, Berdee first saves any lesson edits still in progress. If your latest edit hasn't finished saving within a few seconds, Berdee keeps you on the page instead of reloading, so nothing is silently lost — but it won't reload automatically once the save catches up either. Check the editor's save indicator, and once it shows saved, click Reload now again to pick up the update. On other pages, reloading doesn't save anything for you, so save your changes first.

  • I'll reload later — dismisses the dialog and lets you keep working on the

current version. The prompt won't come back for this update. If a _newer_ update ships after that, you'll be prompted again.

This prompt only appears in your educator workspace. Student routes never show it — a learner won't be interrupted mid-activity, and they'll pick up the new version on their next natural reload.

When the check happens

Berdee checks for a new version periodically while you're in your workspace or the studio, and again whenever you switch back to the Berdee tab after working elsewhere. Public pages, like this help center or a marketplace listing, don't check for updates. If you've had one open for a while, refresh it to get the latest version. There's nothing to configure — it just works in the background.

Why reloading matters

Running the latest version means you get the newest features, the most recent fixes, and the best compatibility with everything else in the app. If something looks off and you've had a tab open for a long time, reloading is the first thing worth trying — see also Browser Compatibility.
