Configuring a Dropdown
Set up a dropdown's placeholder, options, and answer key in a roomy Configure dialog, opened right from the canvas.
A dropdown lets learners choose one answer from a compact list — handy when you want to save space or repeat the same question pattern several times. Its setup — the placeholder, the list of options, and which option or options count as correct — lives in a dedicated Configure dialog with room to work, instead of being squeezed into the narrow right sidebar.
Opening the Configure dialog
Select a dropdown on the canvas. A floating ⚙ Configure button appears just above it.
Click ⚙ Configure to open the dialog. Alongside the settings you'll see a live preview of the dropdown, so you can see what it will look like on the canvas while you edit (you can't see the dropdown itself behind the dialog). From top to bottom the dialog has:
- Scoring — whether the dropdown contributes to the score. The Scoring switch, Points, and Group work the same for every scorable widget.
- Content — the placeholder, the options, and (when scoring is on) the answer key.
Setting up the content
Work in the Content section:
- Placeholder — the prompt shown before a learner picks anything, such as "Choose a verb tense" or "Select the matching term." Keep it short.
- Options — the choices learners can select. Edit each label in its text field, click Add Option to add another, and use the trash button to remove one (a dropdown keeps at least two options). Drag the grip handle on the left of any option to reorder the list — the order you set here is the order options appear in the menu. Keep labels short enough to scan quickly.
- Randomize order — turn this on to shuffle the options each time the scene loads, so a learner can't memorize an answer by its position and every retry mixes them up. Leave it off to keep the exact order you arranged above. Shuffling only changes the display order — it never changes which option is correct.
Grading the dropdown
Scoring is on by default, so the dialog opens with the shared on/off, points, and group controls already at the top — and a round green checkmark beside each option in Content:
- Mark correct — click the circle next to an option to mark it as a correct answer; click again to clear it. Filled green circles are the accepted answers. You can mark more than one option correct: a learner still picks a single option from the dropdown, so any option you mark counts as a correct answer (handy when several phrasings or synonyms are all acceptable). The same green checkmark is used to mark correct answers in Multiple Choice.
If you're using the dropdown only to branch the scene (for example, revealing a matching explanation based on the choice) rather than to grade it, turn Scoring off — there's no right or wrong answer to score.
Saving your changes
Nothing you change in the dialog affects the widget until you save it. The canvas keeps showing the last saved version while you work.
- Save applies your Content and Scoring changes to the widget.
- Cancel throws the changes away and leaves the widget as it was. Pressing Esc, clicking the ✕, or clicking outside the dialog does the same thing. If you've made changes, you'll be asked to confirm before they're discarded, so an accidental click can't lose your work.
What stays in the sidebar
Only Content and Scoring move into the Configure dialog. Style & Layout — the background, text, and border colors, fonts, font size, border radius, and cursor — still lives in the right sidebar, the same as every other widget. So do the dropdown's behaviors/triggers, visibility, and position. Select the widget and the sidebar shows its Style & Layout settings while the dialog handles the options and scoring.
