Email Preferences

Which emails Berdee sends, which ones the Marketing emails switch turns off, and which ones always arrive.

Berdee sends two kinds of email, and the difference decides what you can turn off.

What you can turn off

Marketing emails is a single switch covering informational mail: messages that keep you in the loop but that you don't need in order to run your classroom or your account.

Today that means:

  • "A lesson you bought has a new version": the publisher updated something you own.

Turn it off and that email stops arriving. The update itself is not hidden. It still appears in your notifications in Berdee, so you lose the nudge, not the information.

What always arrives

Some email is part of something you're already doing, so it isn't covered by the switch and has no unsubscribe link:

  • Purchase receipts: when you buy a lesson with credits, naming the lesson and what it cost. Claiming a free lesson doesn't send one; it goes straight to your library.
  • Account emails: sign-in links, the welcome email when you first sign in, classroom invitations, and the one-time "Set up payouts to start publishing" email after you subscribe to Studio Pro.
  • Billing emails: if a Plus or Studio Pro payment doesn't go through, we email you once for that bill. Your plan keeps working while Stripe tries again, and Settings › Billing is where you update your card. If your plan ends and your account moves to Free, we email you then too. Your lessons stay in your account either way.
  • Bonus credits: when you're on an annual plan, the email that tells you your yearly bonus credits have landed, with the amount. They're part of what the annual price buys, so the notice that they arrived isn't marketing. See Marketplace Credits.

If you sell on the marketplace, you also get:

  • Sale notifications: someone bought your lesson. After ten sales in a day, the rest arrive together in one summary shortly after midnight, named by date. It's the same news either way, so the switch treats them the same. Someone claiming your free lesson doesn't send one; you'll see it on your Publisher dashboard.
  • Payout notices: when we send your earnings to your Stripe account. Stripe then deposits it into your bank on your payout schedule. See Payouts.
  • Payouts paused: if Stripe turns off payouts to your account because it needs more information, we email you with a link to Settings › Payouts. Your earnings are kept, and payouts resume on the usual monthly schedule once Stripe turns them back on. If they stay paused for 30 days, your published lessons are taken off sale, so the email gives you that deadline.

We'd rather you always have a receipt for your own money than tidy your inbox by a message or two.

Every sale, payout, purchase, bonus grant, billing problem and lesson update also appears in your notifications in Berdee, usually within a few minutes.

Turning it off

In Berdee: open Settings, then Notifications, and use the Marketing emails switch. It saves as soon as you flip it and tells you when it's saved.

From an email: every marketing email has an Unsubscribe link and a Manage preferences link in its footer. Both work without signing in (the link itself identifies you), so you can opt out from your phone without hunting for a password.

  • Unsubscribe turns marketing emails off immediately and confirms it.
  • Manage preferences opens a page where you can switch them back on.

All three change the same setting, so they always agree. Changing your mind is one click, and nothing is lost by turning them off.

If email stops arriving entirely

If you're missing receipts too, the switch isn't the cause: those send regardless. Check your spam folder, and if your school filters mail, ask your IT team to allow berdee.app. School networks are the usual reason.
