Find Stock Images

6 min read

One search box covers Pexels, Pixabay, Vecteezy, and your own files, filtered by what you actually need — photos, clipart, vectors, or backgrounds.

One search box, everything at once. Type what you need and Berdee searches Pexels, Pixabay, Vecteezy, and your own media library together, then blends the results into a single grid. There is no vendor to pick first — you never have to guess which library happens to have the dinosaur you want.

Where to find it

  • In the studio, open the media picker from any image widget — select it and click Choose image (or Replace image) above it, or double-click the image on the canvas. The picker opens on the Search tab, with Browse, Upload, and Generate alongside it.
  • On the media page, go to Find stock. The other two tabs are Your files and Sound effects.

Before you type anything, the Search tab shows your most recent files — so grabbing the picture you used yesterday is one click, not a hunt through your library. Below them sit your last few searches and a row of starter topics you can tap: animals, seasons, math, reading, space, emotions. Your recent searches are kept in your own browser and are never sent anywhere.

Filter by what it is, not who made it

Under the search box is a row of chips. They are the fastest way to get the _kind_ of picture a lesson needs:

  • All — everything, blended. Start here when you're browsing rather than hunting.
  • Photos — real photographs. A volcano for a science reading passage, a farmers' market for a vocabulary scene, a close-up of a leaf for a labeling activity.
  • Clipart — friendly illustrated art, usually with a see-through background. A dinosaur sticker for a sorting worksheet, a smiling sun to decorate a weather scene, a cut-out apple for a counting activity.
  • Vectors — artwork that stays crisp at any size. Good for arrows, icons, shapes, and diagram parts you plan to scale up large.
  • Backgrounds — wide, calm imagery meant to sit _behind_ your content. A night sky behind a space lesson, a chalkboard texture behind a title scene, a soft classroom backdrop for a story.

Tap a chip and the search re-runs immediately with your current search term.

Tip: Clipart and vectors are never cropped in the grid — they show whole, on a plain backing — so you can see the real shape of a cut-out before you import it.

The ⚙ Filters menu

Everything secondary lives in one popover next to the search box:

  • Orientation — any, landscape, portrait, or square. Landscape for scene backdrops, portrait for a tall side panel, square when the picture sits in a tidy grid of options.
  • Transparent background only — the sticker filter. Turn it on when you want a cut-out that sits cleanly on a colored scene with no white box around it. Perfect for drag-and-drop pieces, labels, and decorations.
  • Sources — a checkbox per stock library. Leave them all on; uncheck one only if you have a reason to. This is also where a source tells you if it's temporarily busy or unavailable.

Filters stay put while you keep working, and reset when you come back later.

Your own files come first

When your search matches something you already own, those files appear in a pinned From your library strip above the stock results — never buried in the stock ranking. That strip updates live as you type, so it feels instant.

  • Click a file in the strip to preview it, then Insert. It's already yours, so inserting is instant — no import, no download, no waiting.
  • See all → jumps to the Browse tab with your search carried over, if you'd rather browse your own files.

Stock results work a little differently: they wait for you to press Enter (or click the search button). That's deliberate — stock libraries limit how many searches an app can send them, so Berdee searches on a finished thought rather than on every keystroke. It's the same rhythm as searching on Pexels or Pixabay directly.

"In your library"

If a stock result is one you already imported before, it wears a green check-marked In your library badge. Click it and Berdee reuses the file you already have instead of downloading a second copy.

That keeps your library from filling up with three versions of the same tree, and it's faster — reusing is instant, importing is not.

Previewing before you commit

Clicking any picture — a stock result, one of your own files, anything in Browse — opens a preview first: a larger view, the title, the creator, and the dimensions. Nothing is added to your lesson until you confirm, so a misclick costs you a glance instead of an edit.

In the studio picker, the button tells you what will happen. A file you already own says Insert (instant, nothing downloaded). A new stock result says Import & insert.

On the media page there's no widget to insert into, so previewing one of your own files is just a look — no button, just Close. A new stock result still gets a button, labeled plain Import: it saves the file into your library without placing it anywhere.

There's also Remix with AI, offered from the studio picker only — it hands the picture to the image generator to make a widget's replacement, which the media page has nowhere to put. See Generate Images with AI.

Importing a stock result

Click any stock result to open a preview: a larger view, the title, the creator, the dimensions, and a button to bring it in — Import & insert in the studio picker, or Import on the media page. The file is saved into your media library like any other asset, so you can reuse it, and it travels with your lesson when you publish or assign.

Load more at the bottom of the grid brings in the next batch. It disappears once there's nothing left to load.

Import size limits and what happens to oversized files are covered in Choose and Source Media.

Tip: Already have the picture on your computer? Skip the search. Use the Upload tab in the picker, or drag the file onto the grid on the Your files tab of the media page.

Credit where it's due

Stock libraries let you use their work for free, and in exchange they ask to be credited.

  • A footer under the results reads Stock media provided by Pexels · Pixabay · Vecteezy, with a link to each.
  • Every result shows its creator — "Photo by Ana R. on Pexels" — on the tile and in the preview.
  • Imported files now remember where they came from. Open a file in your library and you'll see a "From {source} · {creator}" line when it came from a stock library. Nothing to write down and nothing to lose track of months later.

Some Vecteezy artwork requires you to credit the artist wherever the lesson is used. Berdee keeps that requirement attached to the file and shows it in two places:

  • In your library. Open the file's preview and a Credit required note links to the artist's credit details.
  • When you list a lesson on the marketplace. The listing dialog names every image in the lesson that needs a credit, with the artist and a link. Add the credit to your listing description or on a scene before you publish.

Safe search is always on

Every stock search Berdee runs is filtered for family-friendly results, on every source, every time. There is no toggle for it and there never will be — these lessons are built for children.

Filtering is never perfect on a library of millions of images, so preview before you insert. But you should never have to think about it.

"Some sources are busy"

Occasionally you'll see a quiet line under the result count: "Some sources are busy — showing 2 of 3."

It means one stock library didn't answer in time. The results you can see are real and fine to use — nothing is broken and nothing is wrong with your account. You don't need to do anything. Search again in a moment and the missing source usually comes back.

Open ⚙ Filters ▸ Sources if you want to see which one it was — each source says there whether it's available, busy, or not offered for the filter you've picked. Your own library always works, whatever the stock libraries are doing.

Videos

The same Search tab handles video. Switch the kind to Videos on the media page, or open the picker from a video widget.

Stock video comes from Pexels. Pixabay and Vecteezy video aren't available in Berdee — if a video search feels thin, that's why. Your own uploaded video always appears in the From your library strip.

For audio, there's no stock search: sound effects are generated from a description instead. See Organize and Use the Media Library.
