Signing In
How magic-link and Google sign-in work, the security check on the sign-in page, agreeing to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, how long a link lasts, what to do when the email does not arrive or the link has expired, and how to sign out on a shared computer.
Berdee has no password to create, forget, or reset. You sign in with a magic link: you type your email address, we send you a message, and clicking the link in that message signs you in.
- Go to berdee.app/login — or berdee.app/signup if you are creating an account for the first time.
- Enter your email address. (When you are signing up, we also ask for your name so the app can greet you properly.)
- When you are signing up, tick I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Both documents open in a new tab, so you can read them without losing what you typed. We can't create your account without it.
- Press Send magic link.
- Open the email we send and click the link. You land straight in your dashboard, or back on the page you were on. For example, if you chose a plan on the pricing page or opened a marketplace lesson before signing up, the link takes you back there.
The security check
To keep automated scripts from flooding inboxes with sign-in emails, the sign-in and sign-up pages run a quick security check from Cloudflare when you press Send magic link. Most of the time you won't notice it. Occasionally a small Verify you are human box appears below the form: tick it, then press Send magic link again. It works with a keyboard and with screen readers.
If your school network or a browser extension blocks challenges.cloudflare.com, the check can't run and the page says it couldn't confirm the request came from a person. Try a different network or browser, or use Continue with Google if your page shows it.
Signing in with Google
If your sign-in page shows Continue with Google, you can use your Google account instead of an email link. This is handy when the email is slow to arrive, or your school's mail filter holds it.
- Signing up: on the sign-up page, tick I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, then press Continue with Google and choose your account. Your Berdee account is created with that Google address.
- Logging in: press Continue with Google on the log-in page and choose the account whose address you use for Berdee. If you already signed in with email links before, the same account opens, with all your lessons.
- Google asks which account to use every time, so you can pick your school account rather than a personal one (or the other way round). Each Google address is its own Berdee account.
Google sign-in is for educators. Students sign in with their access code.
A link works once and lasts 5 minutes. If it has expired by the time you open it, just ask for a new one.
The link signs in the browser you clicked it from. If you request the link on a laptop but open the email on your phone, you will be signed in on the phone — so open the email on whichever device you want to work on.
The email has not arrived
Magic-link emails usually land within a minute. If yours has not:
- Check spam, junk, and any "Promotions" tab. This is by far the most common cause, especially on school-managed mail.
- Check the address for a typo. On the "Check your email" screen, press ← Use a different email to go back and re-enter it. A link sent to a mistyped address will never arrive.
- Ask whether your school filters outside mail. Some districts quarantine messages from new senders. If you can, ask your IT team to allow mail from Berdee; otherwise sign up with a personal address.
- Press Resend link. The "Check your email" screen has a Resend link button. It becomes available 30 seconds after each send, which gives the first email time to arrive. Each new link replaces the previous one, so always click the most recent email. One address can get 3 sign-in emails in 10 minutes (10 in a day), so if the third hasn't arrived, look through spam and your school's filters before asking again.
Agreeing to the Terms and Privacy Policy
Every educator account agrees to Berdee's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy once, at sign-up. We keep a record of which versions you agreed to and when.
When we update either document, the next time you open Berdee you will see We've updated our Terms and Privacy Policy. Read the new versions, tick the box, and press Agree and continue to carry on where you were. If you'd rather not agree right now, press Sign out; your lessons and classes stay exactly as they are until you come back.
Students never see this. They don't sign up for Berdee, so their use is covered by the educator or school that invited them.
Messages you might see
- "That sign-in link has expired or was already used." You clicked a link that is more than 5 minutes old, or one you already used (some school mail scanners open links before you do, which uses them up). Enter your email on the same page to get a fresh link, and open it soon.
- "To create your account, agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy below." The link you opened would have created a new account, but the box agreeing to the Terms wasn't ticked when you asked for it (for example, you entered a new address on the login page). Tick the box, press Send magic link, and use the new email.
- "Our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy changed since this page loaded." We updated a document while the page was open. Reload the page, review the current versions, and send the link again.
- "We couldn't finish signing you in from that link." Something went wrong on our side while signing you in. Request a new link. If it keeps happening, contact us.
- "We couldn't send the sign-in email. Try again in a minute." Our email service didn't accept the message, so no link is on its way. Wait a minute and press Send magic link again, or use Continue with Google if your page shows it. If it keeps happening, contact us.
- "There's no Berdee account for that Google address yet." You pressed Continue with Google on the log-in page with an address that has no account. If you meant to create one, use the Create one link, tick the box agreeing to the Terms, and press Continue with Google there. If you already have an account under a different address, choose that Google account, or enter that address and use the email link.
- "Signing in with Google didn't finish." You closed or cancelled Google's window, or Google couldn't confirm your account. Try again, or enter your email to get a sign-in link instead.
- "We couldn't confirm this request came from a person." The security check didn't finish before you pressed the button. Tick the Verify you are human box if one is showing below the form, then press Send magic link again. If no box appears, see The security check above.
- "We can't send sign-in emails right now. Try again in a minute." A check we run before every sign-in email is briefly unavailable on our side, so we held the email back. Wait a minute and try again, or use Continue with Google if your page shows it.
- "Something went wrong." Usually a connection problem — the request never reached us. Check that you are online and press Send magic link again. If you are on a school network that blocks unfamiliar sites, try a different network or ask IT about access to
berdee.app. - "Too many sign-in emails were requested for this address." Three links went to this address in the last 10 minutes (or ten today). The emails were sent: check spam, junk, and your school's quarantine, and click the newest one. Otherwise wait the few minutes the message says, then ask for one more.
- "Too many sign-in emails were requested from your network." Many people on the same school or district network asked for links at once. Wait a few minutes and try again.
- "Too many requests. Wait a minute and try again." You have pressed the button many times in a short window. Wait a minute, then request one more, and use the newest email.
Already signed in?
If you are already signed in, the sign-up and log-in pages take you straight to your dashboard, and the top of every Berdee web page shows Go to dashboard instead of Sign in.
Signing up versus logging in
Both pages ask for the same thing and send the same kind of link, so it is hard to get badly stuck:
- If you enter an address that already has an account on the signup page, you are simply signed in to it.
- If you enter a brand-new address on the login page, use the Create one link at the bottom instead, so we can capture your name and your agreement to the Terms. A link requested from the login page for a new address brings you back to the signup page to agree first.
Either way, the footer of each page links to the other: signup offers "Already have an account? Log in", and login offers "Don't have an account? Create one".
Signing out
Open the menu with your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Log out. You are signed out once the sign-in page appears.
On a shared classroom computer, wait for the sign-in page before you walk away. If the menu shows "Couldn't sign out — try again" instead, you are still signed in: your browser could not reach Berdee to end your session, usually because the connection dropped. Press Log out again. Until the sign-in page appears, the next person to use that browser opens Berdee as you.
