Share a lesson with another educator
Give colleagues a share code so they can import your lesson and assign it to their own students.
Every lesson you create has a share code — a short, 9-character code (like R7K-39P-XMT) you can give to another educator. When they import the code, the lesson shows up in their lessons list. They can assign it to their students and see their own analytics, but only you can edit it.
This is different from publishing to the marketplace. Marketplace listings are public and can be purchased; share codes are private and direct — give the code only to the educators you want to share with.
Find your share code
- Open the lesson from Lessons.
- Click the ⋯ button at the top right and choose Share.
- Use the Copy button to grab the code, then send it to your colleague.
The code never changes — anyone you've shared with continues to see the lesson even after you edit it.
Import a lesson someone shared with you
- Go to Lessons.
- Click Import in the top right.
- Paste or type the 9-character code (case doesn't matter; dashes are optional).
- Confirm the lesson details — title, description, grades, subjects, and author.
- Click Add to my lessons.
The imported lesson now appears in your list with a "Shared by …" label. Open it to assign it to a classroom just like any other lesson.
What importers can and can't do
| Action | Owner | Importer |
|---|---|---|
| Edit content in the studio | Yes | No |
| Assign to their own classrooms | Yes | Yes |
| See attempts from their own students | Yes | Yes |
| See another educator's students | No | No |
| Publish to the marketplace (Studio Pro) | Yes | No |
| Delete the lesson | Yes | No |
Importing and assigning work on any plan, for owner and importer alike. On Free you assign to one classroom of up to 5 students; Plus and above add more classrooms and students (see Plans).
Because importers see the same lesson the author edits, any change you make is reflected in everyone's copy on their next visit — there's no "fork" to keep in sync.
Students stay with the educator who assigned them. The lesson's Assignments list, its attempts, and your dashboard numbers only ever include students you assigned the lesson to — as the author you won't see the students of colleagues who imported it, and they won't see yours.
Because an importer's students get the lesson as the author has it right now, an import is checked the same way the author's own assign is: if the lesson has unfinished parts (for example, no Submit Lesson button), assigning it — or pushing it with Update students to latest — stops and lists what needs fixing. Ask the author to fix those parts in the studio, then try again.
